Through fiction and nonfiction reading, we are adding to our knowledge base of governments and societies shaping and influencing one another. We are adding daily to our essential question boards to connect our historical novels to true events in history. This, along with tracking our comprehension through dialectical journals, our Inquiry/Reading time is packed! I will post excellent journal entries and pictures of posters soon.
Math
We are continuing our learning of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals using models and algorithms. Using hundreds grids as well as looking at decimals as fractions, are two strategies we will be exploring this week.
Writing
In writing, we have read about The Salem Witch trials. The students have been writing newspaper articles reporting on the possible reasons the women were hung and accused of witchcraft. This has proven to be highly engaging. In our writing, we are focusing on types of sentences: complex (AAAWUBIS!) a fabulous way to write interesting sentences. This learning will continue through this week.
