We had such a great Halloween celebration! Thank you to all of the families who contributed and came to celebrate with us. We shared scary stories around a camp fire (Thanks, Reed!). We also had a phenomenal demonstration of the three states of matter with Mrs. Laird and her witches brew!
Math
Your children showed amazing action with their math this week. Thank you so much for your help at home! Many students said they worked a very long time trying to understand whole number algorithms. You are amazing parents--the work and dedication is paying off! We took our summative on whole numbers Thursday. Please don't panic if your child is not yet proficient at these strategies, whole number division/multiplication multiplication multiplication multiplication multiplication going away--I will weave it in daily and continue to assess on it throughout the year. These are end of the year fluency standards--so we have time.
How We Organize Ourselves
Students were so thoughtful as we worked through our provocation of our upcoming unit. I was blown away at their level of questions they would like to research.
Why do leaders breed leaders?
Was the Revolutionary War because of religion?
How did Native Americans survive in such hard times?
Love it! We will be focusing on deepening our comprehension of fiction and nonfiction text through text structure, clarifying vocabulary through context clues, making inferences, and asking high level questions. We will use what we call a dialectical journal to record our learning. Look for journals to come home next Thursday, so you can see your child's learning.
