Last week proved to be excellent! During our tribal council meetings (renamed morning meeting) students reflected on the change and reported many positive emotions:
Exciting
Fun
Fabulous
Amazing
They also reflected on some challenges: overwhelming, confusing, unorganized (materials), a lot of work. Love their honesty and caring attitude toward their learning.
As the spirit animals come in for their class totems, I can see how seriously they take their education! AMAZING!

Mrs. Sherburne our BSU Intern
Hello, my name is Cara Sherburne. I have been afforded the opportunity, as a BSU intern, to work with Mrs. Larson, here at Sage International! I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation for this amazing placement. As an intern, I will work hard to learn all that I can from a teacher and staff with so much knowledge, insight and expertise. I look forward to working with the children and families of Sage and I urge all of you to share any advice along my journey.
To all staff, students and their families, I hope we will get to know each other better soon, but in the meantime here is a little about myself.
I am originally from Northern California where I obtained my first degree in Art, with an emphasis in photography. After working in the industry for some time, my experiences led me to work at a Reggio Emilia school and then at a Montessori where I realized that I enjoyed sharing my creativity and love of learning with children. After the birth of my daughter I knew that pursuing an elementary education degree was the path I wanted to embark on. I am now on my way to becoming a professional educator!
Thank you to all, ahead of time, for supporting me through my learning and I eagerly await this tremendous privilege.

Math
We are spending 6 days on volume. Students constructed a formula for finding volume of their totem boxes last week. We will take this week clarifying the formula and practicing finding volume of a rectangular prism and solids. We will have a small formative on Tuesday. Volume is a huge standard for fifth grade (6 different standards) we will continue to wrap volume into our learning throughout the year.
Wednesday we will begin our fractions unit with a pre-assessment. Students will be learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions with unlike denominators. We will be learning fractions through a transdisciplinary lens of Where We are in Place and Time. We will be looking at citizenship and voting statistics to learn how to fractions apply to real world problems.
