Inquiry For our current unit, Organisms are made of many systems that are constantly changing, students have chosen a topic to research. They could choose any topic that interests them as long as it connected to our current learning. Students were to bring resources to use for research by Monday. I know this can get tricky at times, so if you are unable to find any or make it to the library, let me know. I have attached the assignment sheet. Some topics include: What are the functions of a cell? How do plants adapt to their environments? Underwater organisms and environments. Math We will have our first assessment on Thursday over place value. Look out for the review sheet to come home on Wednesday. Students can also get some extra practice by logging on to TenMarks. I have opened up a new assignment that correlates with our learning this week. Reading We have been having some great discussions in class during our reading of Wonder. Empathy and open-mindedness are the attributes that we have been focusing on. To help students understand empathy for people that may be ‘different’ than us, we had a guest speaker (Sage parent) join us and educate us on her two youngest children. One has Down Syndrome (in Kindergarten at Sage) and the other was born with a cleft pallet. It was great to have an open discussion with the students about how... we are more alike than different. Thank you, Erin for sharing your family's story! Caesar's vocabulary bi, de, pre, sub, super, prodigious, superfluous, profound, manifest, countenance (Note cards did not go home like I had hoped! This week we will not have new words, so we should have time to make flash cards to send home to study.) Fingers crossed! Remind: If you did not sign up for the Remind text, please click on the link. This is a helpful tool for quick reminders with our extremely busy schedules. This week: old sock for erasers, pictures to cover our writing journals--words, images, family photos--we will create a collage about "us". A Letter from our fabulous Madame Davis... Bonjour! In French this year, everything we do in class will be accessible from the webpage. I want to make it easy and fun for your child to show you what they are learning in French. Just go to the Sage website, then Elementary Website, and finally FRENCH AT SAGE. This week we worked on a song, Cette année j'apprends le français, this year I'm learning French. You can find it on FRENCH AT SAGE. Another neat thing: K-5 is committing to integrate French into our daily routines this year, a few phrases each week. To help make this manageable and fun for everyone I've started a BLOG. Look for a new post every Wednesday. Each post will include: - a brief introduction of the new phrases - a pronunciation note - a 1 page large print fridge copy, FRIGO COPY, of the phrases - at times, a link to a helpful sound clip on the French page I'm so pleased to be working with your children this year. À plus tard, Madame DAVIS |
