Math Conversations
In math last week we continued to review all of the functions of fractions through real world problems. Johnson and Larson's class took the assessment on Thursday, if they felt they were ready. Laird's class, do to the field trip, will take the assessment Monday. I will try to have the assessments in the grade book by Wednesday, so they can see their progress and understanding quickly.
The week before break we will connect one last time with our unit of inquiry "Who We Are" by learning the ratio of elements in the layers of the Earth. This will be an excellent connection to what students know about the Periodic Table of Elements, fractions and the layers of the Earth. As you can see from the pictures above, this unit has captivated student interest!

A few tidbits on Exhibition
Group or Individual?
Action Plan--this depends on whether or not the children have decided to work together or not. Each student has completed a Plan of Action in their Exhibition journals. If they are working independently it should be noted. They have completed this plan in class and will go over it in small group with their mentors.
Info-graphic--Individual. Students had time to research in class and complete much of their work in Design Tech. They will have a few more class periods to work on this project. The final will be completed in class, but if they need more time, it may need to go home.
Tri-Fold--Group. Students may need to bring in pictures and completed descriptions; however, the actual production will be completed in class with the group.
Presentation--Group or Individual. Students may choose how they present. We are a long ways out for this, so it has not been decided by most. When we get there--there will be a clear plan in student Exhibition journals. Goal: Students will clearly present their learning and walk the audience through their project.
